Review of Stuart Simmonds latest Children’s Book Harry the Karate Monkey.
As you may have noticed throughout posts and other reviews here at Yorkie not just for Dads, me and the girls love books and storytime. Today I am going to be sharing with you another new fabulous book which is out now which is called Harry the Karate Monkey written by the exciting author of the Hannah the Spanner series of children’s books Stuart Simmonds.
Harry the Karate Monkey.
Harry the Karate Monkey is the latest Children’s book which is written by Stuart Simmonds and illustrated by Bill Greenhead. The first in what is planned to be a 7 book series with the next release due out spring 2021.
This book has been cleverly written and the illustrations by Bill Greenhead are bright, colourful and eye catching. For reading wise for my 5yr old it is a bit tricky for her current reading level but is perfect for my older girls who all have thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
With the style of the book it is quite comic-esk and has introduced the kids to a comic book style storyboard with how the illustrations and text are laid throughout the pages.
It includes a fair few of the words that my step-daughter Titch is learning at the moment in school along with the level phonetics she is covering.
With the awesome action packed illustrations in Harry the Karate Monkey it is still a great story for storytime with my younger two daughters too, Pig who is 5 really enjoys the strory, she finds it hillarious that Harry the Monkey comes to life and even adds the relation of memories she has of Toy Story and how they come alive which sparks her imagination of if her own toys came to life.
Dads thoughts of Harry the Karate Monkey.
For me I love this book and look forward to the rest of the series, If any book will help engage my girls to read and want to read more then I am all for it. Not only that it is the funky, action packed type of story I love to read to them.
It is the sort of story that you can add in funny voices for some of the Characters such as Agent X, the Professor, Harry the Karate monkey and more. Getting silly and involved like that makes my kids crack up with laughter and elevates that enjoyment with the story.
