I think it is rather quite funny really. All the sayings your mum or dad used to come out with when you was a kid. Here I’m going to share with you my Top 5 parenting sayings I find myself using, that my parents also used to use near enough daily.
What every parent says.
As parents at some point or another before we had children. We would swear that we wouldn’t be like our parents. For me it was I wouldn’t raise my voice like my old man used to. I wouldn’t be one of those parents that came out with daft parenting sayings. You know the ones, don’t swing that around like that ‘You’ll have someone’s eye out with that’.
Look and read on and you will Find my top 5 parenting sayings below.
My top 5 parenting sayings .
1 – If they told you to jump off a bridge would you do it?
You know the one where your child does something ridiculous. You catch them in the act and their excuse is… ‘But so and so told me to’. And the common parent reply is, if they told you to jump off a bridge would you do it!
2 – Just you wait until your dad comes home!
The old invisible threat. When you kids have come in from school, dad’s out at work and they’ve literally been…. Pardon my french but Little Shits. I know my mum used it often and I think my other half has used it a few times. ‘Just you wait until your Dad gets home!!’
3 – Be careful or you’ll have someone’s eye out with that.
I’m sure you will have experienced this I know I have. Picture the scene. Your out on a walk or in the park. Kids love sticks and you see your little one pretending to be Harry Potter or something waving the stick as if it’s a wand. What’s the first thing a parent would say? I know, ‘Watch what your doing with that you’ll have someone’s eye out’.
4 – If the wind changes your face will stay like that.
My kids are just like me when I was a lad. One way to express your mood was silly faces or facial expressions. You know the pet lip and puppy eyes. The scowl and gurningntupe face. Yep mine do it to. What does a parent say as a reaction… ‘If the wind Changes your face will stay like that’.
5 – Because I said so that’s why!
One main word in any child’s vocabulary and comeback arsenal is… WHY!! Go tidy your room?… Why. Don’t throw things like that!! Why?
The main parent comeback for the dread WHY is… ‘Because I said so that’s why!’.
How many of these have you used in your parental journey. How many mum or dad sayings have you used that you swore that you would never use.
I fimd it humerous and comical that my own parents used to use these a lot. They do bring back alot of memories. There are many more. I shared these 5 with you as they are the ones I find myself saying the most. Have a look at this post I found and see if there are any other parenting sayings that you can remember.
So we have discussed Parenting Sayings that we said to ourselves we would never use from our own childhood. But what about a style of parenting. A parenting tool you may call it. Something that your own parents may have used or used to do when you was a chils. Take a look at my post discussing The Dad Voice.
